OpenedYet works through a small Chrome extension, OpenedYet for Chrome. It adds read receipts to Gmail in your browser. Here’s how to get going.
What you need
- Google Chrome (or another browser that installs Chrome Web Store extensions) on Windows, Mac, Linux or ChromeOS.
- A Gmail address — a personal
@gmail.comaddress or a Google Workspace address both work. - Gmail opened in the browser at mail.google.com. The Gmail phone apps aren’t supported for sending tracked emails.
Install in four steps
- Open the install page. Go to the OpenedYet install page and click Add to Chrome.
- Confirm the permissions. Chrome shows what the extension can access: Gmail (mail.google.com) and openedyet.com. That’s all it needs — it never reads your other websites.
- Pin it (optional). Click the puzzle-piece icon next to Chrome’s address bar and pin OpenedYet, so its menu is one click away.
- Open Gmail and connect. Reload Gmail. OpenedYet asks you to connect your Gmail address to an OpenedYet account. Here’s how connecting works.
Send your first tracked email
Write an email as usual and press Send. In your Sent folder, a grey ✓ appears next to it. When the recipient opens it, the tick turns into a green ✓✓ and you get an alert.
Testing tip: opening your own email doesn’t count as an open — that’s on purpose. To test, send an email to a different address you own and open it on your phone or in another email app.
